The Lisensis Software Licensing System

Overview

Anyone who writes software for a living needs a way to monetize their applications.

Sure, you can write you own hash-based license key system. But will it protect your intellectual property without unduly inconveniencing your (potential) customers? How much work is it to create a system from scratch, possibly for only a few applications? How will you dispense, track and sell your licenses?

Lisensis is a complete solution for small-to-medium software producers which provides you with a coding framework on which to easily add your own customizations. Lisensis also provides you with a web presence through which your customers can obtain licenses, trials, subscriptions, etc.

Lisensis is flexible. You can create licenses specific to your individual products, versions – and ranges of versions – of your products. You can lock licenses to installation clients and to externally or internally defined entities such as databases and domains. You can define license types and expiry dates. Licenses can be deactivated for transfer to other client machines. You can defines permissions for various aspects of your application for unlicensed, trial and current and expired license scenarios.

How does Lisensis work?

From a coding perspective, you simply add the Lisensis library to any Microsoft .NET project. The Lisensis library exposes a Lisensis class which may be inherited, augmented and customized to your requirements.

From the vendor product key embedded within your product Lisensis generates Registration Codes and decodes the License Keys your customers enter providing you with the Key’s information from which you determine the behaviour of your application.

When your customers wish to purchase a license for one of your products, they visit a web page – hosted by us or on your own site – which connects through our licensing backend via the Lisensis API. We do not deduct any fees directly from your transaction. Instead, we either bill you as a credit-approved customer or else deduct funds from your deposited funds. What does Lisensis cost?

The Lisensis library, your vendor web portal and access to the Lisensis API are all free of charge. The licenses your customers buy from you are charged a royalty of between 2% and 10% of the license price of your product depending on volume.
